Education Sunday 2026

Invitation from the Catholic Education Service (CES)

Education Sunday takes place each year on the second Sunday of September, and in 2026 is observed on September 13.

Established by the Bishops in 1848, it is one of the oldest Days of Special Prayer in the liturgical calendar of England and Wales.

This year's theme for Education Sunday is drawn from its Gospel reading of Matthew 18:21-35: I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.

The CES has produced some resources for schools to use ahead of this year's Education Sunday, and the Rt Rev Marcus Stock, Bishop of Leeds and Chair of the CES, has written a letter to all those within Catholic education to mark the occasion.
