Become a Teacher

Do you want to become a teacher? It’s now even easier to train!

Starting September 2025

Birmingham Newman University is piloting a new secondary PGCE in collaboration with Bishop Challoner Catholic College in Birmingham and the Painsley Catholic Academy, Stoke on Trent.

The course includes placements in at last two schools, complemented with fully online academic study. You can gain Qualified Teacher Status in only one year*
*You must have a degree in a related subject to be considered for the programme and complete a successful interview.

Delivered in partnership with our Catholic school-based providers, this programme offers a unique blend of academic excellence and real-world teaching experience. 

What to expect: 

  • Online Academic Study
  • Learn online with expert support from Birmingham Newman University’s academic team
  • Real Classroom Experience 
  • Gain hands-on training through placements with our lead school partners Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) 
  • Achieve QTS in just one year through a nationally recognised school-based route
