News from 'SJOG Homes for Ukraine'

Ukraine. The war continues. People from Ukraine are still getting in touch daily wishing to seek safety in the UK. The Church nationally has established a new scheme available to all Dioceses, run by the Saint John of God Hospitaller Services (SJOG).

They will prepare hosts and match them with guests from Ukraine. Would you consider hosting an individual, or mother and child, or a small family for six months in your home, with support?

SJOG Homes for Ukraine, in partnership with Caritas Social Action Network (CSAN), really needs new hosts.

Over 500 possible guests from Ukraine have signed up to the scheme and at the moment there are only about 70 potential hosts.

SJOG are hosting online information sessions for potential hosts/sponsors over the coming months. Please take part if you are able to assist.

During the webinars (dates in April, May and June) you will find a wealth of useful information about hosting that will give you a clear understanding of what hosting is and isn't, and how to build healthy boundaries and support your guest's independence.

Information session 1 - Can I be a Sponsor? In this information session, you will learn about SJOG Hospitaller Services, our Projects and History. You will also learn about our matching service, who is eligible to be sponsored, a portrait of a typical Ukrainian displaced individual you might expect to host, some key considerations before deciding to host, the hosting process (including checks by your local authorities, DBS checks, and preparing your property), and your role as a host (including what is not expected of you).

Information session 2 - Happy Together. In this information session, you will learn how to provide well-being support to your guests, how to build and maintain boundaries, safeguarding and types of abuse so you can help your guest from getting into an undesirable situation. You will learn about communication tips and cultural differences, confidentiality, integration support and other useful information, including opening a bank account, getting a Biometric Residence Permit, transport, education, cost of living, 'Thank you' payments to hosts, and other useful topics.
