From today, Thursday 10th January, there is a significant change to the traffic flow system on Shadwell Street.

This will remain in place for at least the next three years.

Due to long term construction work taking place opposite the rear of St Chad’s Cathedral and Archbishop’s House,  a change has been approved to the traffic flow system on Shadwell Street.

This will enable the St Joseph’s homes development to implement a pit lane for their site.

Shadwell Street is now a one-way system with traffic flow from Princip Street running up to Old Snowhill.

Therefore it is not possible to turn into Shadwell Street from Old Snowhill/Constitution Hill or to exit the car park to the right.

To enable access to the Cathedral Car Park, vehicles will have to drive past the front of the Cathedral, turning left onto Newtown Row then left on to Princip Street and Shadwell Street.

During office hours it will be possible for vehicles to exit the car park via the existing gates at the top end of the car park (to the left) leading through the Don Lee House car park.

This leads onto Little Shadwell Street where you must turn right, following the road round where you can either turn left towards Lower Loveday Street and onwards to join Summer Lane or Newtown Row; or right on to Vesey Street to join Newtown Row.
