Chris Gabbett (Principal) and Jon Shires (Deputy Principal) from Trinity Catholic School will be walking from London to Canterbury in May to support special needs pupils in Warwickshire.

They are aiming to raise £12000 to support the expansion of Peter’s Place, a unit for young people with a diagnosis of autism, who find mainstream school environments too challenging to engage with as a result of significant anxiety.  It was established in 2016, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council.   There is significant need in Warwickshire for additional places, and expansion is necessary.  Warwickshire County Council is making a significant contribution but budgets centrally are so stretched that the school will need to contribute capital investment to enable the expansion.

Chris Gabbett said, ‘Peter’s Place is an amazing setting.  Most of the pupils who attend have been outside of the school system, and Trinity has successfully integrated them back into schooling.  We are extremely proud of what it has achieved.  We are aiming to raise a lot of money, but it will enable children to access schooling who are currently outside of the education system’.

The 66 mile walk will be completed over three days, starting near to where Chaucer’s pilgrims began at Southwark Cathedral and finishing at Canterbury Cathedral.  Anyone interested in sponsoring can do so via the JustGiving page.
