On Sunday 2 July 2023, five seminarians were Ordained to the Sacred Order of the Diaconate at St Mary's College, Oscott. Next year, God willing, they will be ordained as priests.

Archbishop Bernard Longley was the Principal Celebrant and he was joined by the resident priests and seminarians along with many visiting priests, family, and friends of the candidates.

The new deacons ordained were:
Anthony Asomugha - Diocese of East Anglia
Ambrose Chou - Diocese of Portsmouth
Christian Nwakamma - Diocese of Hallam
Peter Ross - Archdiocese of Liverpool
Frank Westcott - Diocese of Brentwood

Prayerful congratulations also to seminarians at The Venerable English College, Rome, who were ordained to the Sacred Diaconate on Wednesday 5 July by Bishop Douglas Crosby, OMI at Palazzola.

The new deacons ordained were:
David Bench - Archdiocese of Birmingham
James Finnegan - Archdiocese of Liverpool
Martin Fyles - Archdiocese of Liverpool
William Meehan - Diocese of Hamilton
Joseph O’Brien - Diocese of Hexham & Newcastle

David Bench (pictured below), of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, said: "Reaching this point after a long and fruitful journey at the Venerable is very humbling. What one has been discerning for many years suddenly becomes a reality, and I am excited for the next chapter as a minister of the Lord's Gospel."
