Latest News Festive fundraising at Coventry school Children from a school in Coventry have been enjoying a host of festive fundraising activities. Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School has organised a variety of fun events to celebrate the magic of Christmas and help boost school funds, which have taken a huge hit as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. Children at the school, which is part of the Romero Catholic Academy, have donned festive fancy dress for a jingle bell jog, enjoyed watching Christmas films, taken part in a Christmas trail and received special doorstep deliveries of sweet cones, hot chocolate cones and reindeer dust from their teachers dressed as elves. They have also taken part in a ‘break the rules day’ where they could give a donation to break school rules of having to wear full school uniform, having neat and tidy hair, not wearing multicoloured socks or tights, not wearing trainers and not wearing nail polish. Teachers also got involved in the spirit of the day by dressing in school uniforms. The school has already raised more than £3,000, with more donations still coming in. Sophie Edge, PE lead at Sacred Heart, said: “This year has been so different for the children, so we still wanted them to feel the magic of Christmas while raising some much-needed money for the school. “It’s been incredibly hard for all schools which have had to cope with a lot of additional costs for PPE, extra cleaning and cover for vulnerable members of staff who have been required to isolate. “We normally hold fundraising events throughout the year, but as this hasn’t been possible we wanted to have a big push this term and organise some really fun events for the children. “We also understand that it’s been a difficult year for parents, so we’ve been asking them to only donate if they can. “Although we haven’t been able to hold events for the whole school to take part in at the same time, we’ve been creative and organised ones that each individual class can enjoy, right from Reception to Year 6. “All of the children, and staff, have had a fantastic time taking part and celebrating Christmas, and we’d like to thank everyone for their donations.” Photo captions Sacred Heart 1: Children at Sacred Heart get festive as part of the school’s Christmas fundraising celebrations.Sacred Heart 2: Pupils get ready for the jingle bell jog.Sacred Heart 3: Children and teachers have fun on break the rules day.
