A Thanksgiving Mass to mark 60 years of priesthood has been held for Rt Rev Mgr David Cousins.

Fellow clergy, family and parishioners gathered at Sacred Heart Church, Sutton Coldfield, for the Mass earlier this month (March) which was celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Longley.

Mgr David Cousins had been parish priest at Sacred Heart until his recent retirement. Despite being ‘retired’ he still lives in the parish and celebrates Mass most days. This and reaching his 85th birthday later this month!

The Archbishop presented Mgr David with a Papal Blessing, a gift from the parish.

A further Mass was celebrated for all the parishioners followed by a wonderful lunch, which was attended by almost 100 people.

Mgr David was presented with a cheque - a gift from the parishioners. He is much loved in our parish and still looks after us spiritually, practically and with energy and humour.
