On Sunday,  thousands of people made a pilgrimage to over 400 venues around  Britain to join the  “Rosary on the Coast” initiative.

Encouraged by His Grace Archbishop Longley, a number of parishes in the Archdiocese also joined in from within their landlocked areas. These included:

  • St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Banbury,
  • Sacred Heart and Holy Souls Catholic Church, Acocks Green, Birmingham,
  • St Bernadette's RC Church, Brownhills
  • St Joseph's R.C. Church, Burntwood
  • St Teresa's RC Church, Charlbury
  • St Giles Catholic Church, Cheadle
  • St Osburg's Church, Coventry
  • St. Stanisław Kostka RC Polish Parish, Coventry
  • St. Birinus Catholic Church, Dorchester-on-Thames
  • St Peters R C Church, Leamington Spa
  • St Aloysius Catholic Church, Oxford
  • St. Mary's the Mount RC Church, Walsall
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Catholic Church, Wolverhampton

From the Church of St Mary & St John, Wolverhampton, a group went with their Parish Priest Father Paweł Bielak to meet up with Corpus Christi R.C. Church, Weston-super-Mare where they attended Mass in the morning, and then went down to the nearby beach in the afternoon to pray the Rosary. You can view their photos here.

In addition, a number of pilgrims made their own way from Birmingham, Macclesfield, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Walsall, and Wolverhampton, to join the event at New Brighton on the Wirral.

Here, the prayers were led by Canon Montjean of the nearby Shrine Church of Saints Peter and Paul and Saint Philomena, and also by Father Wadsworth from the parish of St Marie & St Joseph, Bury, who had brought some people from his parish on a coach.

The New Brighton Church is famously known as the “Dome of Home,” and is under the aegis of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest as a Shrine Church with all Masses being in the Traditional Rite.  The church is well worth a visit.  The main Sunday Mass is at 10.30 a.m..
