Soak up the splendour of St Chad’s Cathedral

Birmingham’s Catholic Cathedral will once again be taking part in this year’s Heritage Open Days event.

The Victorian Gothic masterpiece, by AW Pugin, was the first Catholic Cathedral to be built in England after the Reformation.

The September event is a rare opportunity to see parts of the Cathedral which are not normally open to visitors.

This includes a large Romanesque crypt, underneath the Cathedral, which contains several chantry chapels.

The Heritage Open Days offer a unique opportunity to be guided through the history of the Cathedral and Catholic faith and are open to all.

Parish visits and guided tours are most welcome. 

The tours will take place on Thursday 13, Friday 14 and Sunday 16 September, with a maximum of 40 people per tour.

There is full disabled access to the Cathedral, but limited access to the Crypt.

The tours take about two hours but are not suitable for children under 10.

They will run on Thursday 13 September: 10am-12noon; Tour at 10am
Friday 14 September: 10am-12noon; Tour at 10am
Sunday 16 September: 1.30-3.30pm; Tour at 1.30pm
