Children have been following the yellow brick road to put on a performance of a much-loved classic at a Coventry theatre.

Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School has performed The Wizard of Oz at the Albany Theatre.

The play featured the whole of Key Stage 2 at the school, which is part of the Romero Catholic Academy, with pupils from Years 5 and 6 taking to the stage as the main characters.

Children were then given a first-hand experience of what it is like behind the scenes at a working theatre before the performance.

Zoe Pollard, Assistant Vice Principal at Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School, said: “All of the children had a fantastic time performing at the Albany Theatre and they were absolutely outstanding.

“Not many schools are able to put on a performance at an actual theatre, but it is something we are lucky enough to do.

“It was a real team effort, with both the children and staff coming together to make the performance possible - learning the script and songs and also making the costumes, props and sets.

“We also incorporated other elements of the curriculum to ensure the children were not only developing their skills in drama, but other subjects as well.

“It has been wonderful to see children’s confidence grow and we have had some excellent feedback from everyone that came along. We’re now looking forward to choosing the next show.”
