Our Year of Prayer - St Michael's Catholic Primary Academy, Wolverhampton

For our ‘Year of Prayer’, a new St Michael’s prayer book has been created with designated prayers for each year group to learn. As the children move up through the school, these prayers will help deepen their understanding of the spiritual enrichment attributed to daily worship.

There has been a particular emphasis on the ‘Our Father’ in preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. Each line of it was considered and its meaning explored. Illustrations were created by each year group from Nursery to Year 6 to complement this special prayer. The children have also been learning how to sing the ‘Our Father’ and the ‘Hail Mary’ incorporating British sign language. Their lovely voices can be heard on the accompanying PowerPoint presentation

In addition, there have been two beautiful outdoor prayer areas developed this year. One is at the entrance of our school where the children can pray to Our Lady before the school day begins. The second is in the playground where they can spend some time during their break praying and reflecting.

These initiatives have helped enhance the spiritual life of our school and the children have been able to experience more fully the beautiful gift of prayer.
