Oct 2019: Alan Hassall has taken up the post of permanent Head of Safeguarding for the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Alan is a qualified and registered social worker and has recently been working for a Local Authority, but has also previously worked for the NSPCC.

His work has involved working alongside agencies to develop safeguarding and create organisations safe for children and adults but also for those working and volunteering in them.

Andrew Haley has now completed his interim role as Head of Safeguarding Transformation. He was able to address immediate issues identified following the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) and Charity Commission inquiries.

The learning from both processes is key to shaping our next steps.

The Safeguarding Team, based at Cathedral House, are on hand to help with any safeguarding-related issue. They can be contacted on 0121 230 6240 or via email [email protected]

An interview with Alan will feature in the next edition of The Sower magazine - out late November.
