Maryvale Institute Announces New Summer School Programme - Languages, Environment and Evangelisation!

Maryvale Institute has announced the immediate availability of its new Summer School Programme, which will take place at the end of July 2021.

"We are really excited to be able to offer something a little different to our usual catechetical and Higher Education programmes," said Dr Amanda Orchard, Programme Lead for New Programmes at Maryvale.

"This is an opportunity to add something interesting and a little different to your day, whether you are at home or the office, and perhaps enhance your CV too!"

Many students already study part-time on the extremely successful distance learning courses offered by the Institute, including short courses in Church History and Ecclesiology, up to Bachelor of Divinity, Masters in Philosophy and Research programmes.

The new ‘summer schools’ will run over two weeks in July, with four courses on offer – Introduction to Latin, Introduction to Ancient Greek, Environment Matters! and Evangelisation and the Vocation of Family.

All lectures are online (via Zoom) and the programme is delivered in short blocks – two hours in the morning of lectures and interactive activities, self-study using specially prepared workbooks throughout the day, and a further 1.5 hours of tutorials and lecture time in the late afternoon/early evening, when further self-study activities will be given in readiness for the next morning’s lectures.

"These courses are designed to fit into your busy day, by providing bite-size, online lectures and a workbook for self-study throughout. Students are supported to learn quickly and keep all their study materials in one place!" said Dean of the Institute, Dr Birute Birillute.

"I am already signed up to the ‘Introduction to Latin’ in the first week," said Caroline, a parishioner from Burton-upon-Trent. "I work part-time so this fits in perfectly with my availability and it is only a week. I am looking forward to starting to learn something that I have always wanted to but never found the right course."

Details of the Summer School programme can be found online here together with booking information.

Each week-long event costs only £99, including all lectures, recordings, workbooks and relevant materials, and is limited to 18 students per course, so early booking is advised.

"The programme forms part of a newly revised and updated programme of courses and activities which will be central to the opening of the Pope Francis Centre for Catechetics and Formation later in 2021, which will offer a new range of Certificate and Diploma courses in subjects such as Social Justice, the Environment, International Catholic Studies and Catechesis," added Amanda.

"We are looking forward to welcoming exceptional lecturers from around the world to participate in these summer schools."
