News from the Pastoral Care Project

The annual Dementia Prayer Week initiative of the Pastoral Care Project runs from 12 - 19 March 2020.

It will be launched by Bishop David McGough, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, offering his private Mass: “Let this Prayer Week become your link to the many families struggling with dementia…Prayer is a very powerful way of connecting with all concerned. Let us pray for, and with, those whose lives have been touched by dementia. In this way we become one with them, and with the Lord.”

Bishop David’s ‘Dementia Family Prayer’ and Archbishop Bernard Longley’s ‘Anointing of the Holy Spirit’ prayer can be found in the Dementia family Ministry Prayer card.

The beautiful prayer card can be used every day at Mass or in any setting and is available in small or large packs from

There are activities linked to the Prayer Card in the official resource pack, which is free to download, simply acknowledge the Pastoral Care Project charity and use the official logo.

It is hoped that people will take advantage of the resources offered to consider new initiatives or dedicate their existing event to our cause.

The Pastoral Care Project is offering two new video talks: ‘Dementia – New Creation’ and ‘Our Father’ by Monsignor Paul Watson STL MA (B Ed) Birmingham.

Father Paul, as he liked to be known, went to the Lord in October 2018 and we are so thankful to him for his legacy which he wanted us to share with you.

Dementia Prayer Week is also the Pastoral Care Project’s annual appeal. Please consider supporting this as one of your Lent charities or with a donation.

There’s lots of event ideas to choose from in the official resource pack including a Yellow Day, Bake and Share or Prayer Box and Collective Worship. Whatever the event please use the official logo and the flyer template which you can personalise.

Please send details of your event to [email protected]  it would be nice to hear how you are spreading the word and touching hearts and minds.

The Pastoral Care Project wishes to acknowledge the grant from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales ‘Day for Life Fund’ in support of this week of prayer official resource pack.
