A charity abseil and walk to raise funds for Whispers of Hope will take place on Sunday 14 May 2023.

The abseil is down a disused quarry at Tegg’s Nose Country Park, Macclesfield, and the sponsored walk is a trail around the country park. Participants can either abseil, walk or even do both!

Sister Geraldine Sweeney, a Sister of Mercy based in Newcastle-under-Lyme and a member of staff at St Gregory’s Catholic Academy in Longton, is a trustee of the charity, which is also an associate member of Caritas Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Whispers of Hope is a charity based in the Stoke-on-Trent area. It supports women who are fleeing domestic abuse and honour-based violence who have complex immigration issues.

The women have no recourse to public funds and because of this are unable to access help from refuges or local authority housing. Whispers of Hope provide accommodation in a safe house and subsistence money of £40 a week for up to three ladies.

Whispers of Hope also support other women and families through befriending from volunteers, a 'safe-space' weekly drop-in and emergency food and clothing.

Donations can be made online or by contacting Geraldine at [email protected]

Thank you.
