Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission, Stoke-on-Trent

A wonderful celebration of the new year of Catechetics took place on Sunday 11 September in St Joseph’s Church, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

Father George of the Syro-Malabar Eparchy led the celebration with Pravashenolsavam (Celebration of Admission), Bible Procession and Bible Prathishta (Enthronement). New entrants to the academic year were welcomed by Monsignor Daniel McHugh, the Co-ordinator of Ethnic Chaplaincies, Eparchies and Missions for the Archdiocese.

It was a very joyful occasion with Monsignor Daniel presenting each new entrant with a rose which they in turn presented to Our Lady. Young people (teenagers) played a variety of instruments for the celebratory songs.

The total number of students on the programme is 361; Catechists/Teachers 25; Teaching assistants 7. At the celebration there were 69 new registrations.

Monsignor McHugh congratulated Father George, the Catechists, parents and all the other participants on the Catechetical Programme, which is inspiring. As a former Director of Catechetics for the Diocese, he commented on the importance of family and community Catechesis in complementing what is taking place in R.E. in our schools.

The Ceremony concluded with a minute’s silence and a prayer for the repose of the soul of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II.

Pictures of the Celebration were taken by parents and forwarded for the Diocesan Website.
