Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald MAfr OBE

On Friday 24 March 2023, Cardinal Michael Fitzgerald attended an Afternoon Tea Reception in the Mayor’s Parlour, Walsall.

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Rose Martin, hosted the reception for the Cardinal to thank him for his work in the Catholic Church and to acknowledge his connections with Walsall. Cardinal Michael’s parents Dr. Nora and Dr. Tom were doctors who worked in Walsall for many years.

Religious and Civil leaders of Walsall were present including Mr Eddie Hughes, MP for Walsall North.

Fr Jobin Kollappallil SDV, parish priest of St Mary’s The Mount, Walsall was also present. The Mount was the Church where The Venerable Ignatius Spencer started his Catholic Mission under the guardianship of Fr Francis Martyn.

The event was a great success and a marvellous celebration of the Catholic Legacy and presence in Walsall.

It was so kind of Councillor Rose Martin to host the 'High Tea'.

Cardinal Michael is president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue. He was awarded the OBE for interfaith and interchurch partnerships in the Queen’s New Year Honours List 2022.
