A time to reflect at the end of a decade

There was a great turnout at Sacred Heart and St Teresa’s church in Coleshill as people from across the Archdiocese came to celebrate Father Hudson’s annual Advent service.

Residents, staff, volunteers, trustees and family members united for the service of reflection, led by Archbishop Bernard and Fr Kevin Kavanagh. The service was organised by Bev Smith, and Trevor Stockton, Lucy Davis and Helen Barley once again provided the music.

During the service, Helen gave a harp solo while Sarah, who lives at St Vincent House, added the infant Jesus to the nativity scene at the front of the church.

This year we welcomed a special guest – Cody from St John Fisher School in Stoke. Cody is a talented singer who spent the summer touring the Young at Heart groups to give performances for the group members. She gave a wonderful performance of O Holy Night to the rapt audience.

Kevin Caffrey, Chair of the Board of Trustees, handed out long service certificates to members of staff. This year, amongst the recipients was chief executive Andy Quinn, whom Kevin praised for his dedication and drive over fifteen years at the charity. Kevin also spoke of his pride in the number of projects Father Hudson’s now supports across the Archdiocese. From light-touch background support for independent charities, to 24-hour care services, Father Hudson’s provides whatever support is needed to enable each service – and the people it cares for – to flourish.

Archbishop Bernard thanked everyone in attendance and those who were unable to come. He said he was delighted that the other Trustees could join us and that, speaking as their President, the Board is grateful to all at Father Hudson’s for the work they do every day.

Andy Quinn paid special thanks to Bev for organising the service and for ensuring spiritual needs are cared for throughout the year.

At the end of the service, Archbishop Bernard presented a special award to retiring trustee Rodney Kane. Rodney received the Ubi Caritas Diocesan Award for long service for his dedication to Father Hudson’s Care. Rodney, who was joined by members of his family, received a certificate and medal in recognition of his work.

Afterwards, many people returned to St George’s House to share lunch together. This is a wonderful social event that brings together trustees with staff members, residents, old boys and girls, and special guests. Cody and her mum stayed for lunch, as did Archbishop Bernard, who spoke to staff personally to thank them for their service to people across the Archdiocese.

Father Hudson’s Care is grateful to Fr Kevin for welcoming us once again to Sacred Heart and St Teresa’s church. Moving to the church has enabled us to bring together more people at a time of celebration and thanks, while continuing to allow access for our residents.
