Pulling together as a community

A foodbank launched to help those in need during the coronavirus outbreak is proving a vital service.

Parishioners of St Margaret Mary, Perry Common, have pulled together in this time of crisis to ensure anyone in need of food, basic supplies, medicines or conversation gets what they need.

With the support of parish priest Fr Simon Ellis, and working together with other churches and organisations, St Margaret Mary is playing its role in the national emergency. 

A team of people are working together to collect and drop off shopping, and offer reassurance and comfort over-the-phone.

“We have built a foodbank at the back of church and I want to thank all those who have donated goods, and those that are helping to deliver them to those in need,” said Fr Ellis.

“We are also now part of a community response team across Erdington and Perry Common which is delivering food and basics to over 140 families per day. 

“This includes other churches, Witton Lodge Community Association, Urban Devotion, the Active Wellbeing Society, Age UK, Trussell Trust and local politicians and leaders.”
