Theology Conference - Exploring the Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission

St Mary’s College, Oscott, working with St Mary’s University, London, will host a conference exploring the Synodal Church.

Friday 11 March – Saturday 12 March 2022.

Building on the communion ecclesiology of Lumen Gentium, Pope Francis has launched a vision of a Synodal Church, which calls all the baptised - lay faithful, priests and religious to exercise co-responsibility together for the Church’s mission.

This Theology Symposium, jointly organised by St Mary’s College, Oscott and St Mary’s University, London, offers a forum to begin to reflect theologically on this vision.

It will integrate insights from ecclesiology, pastoral theology, spirituality, sociology, history and canon law. It offers an opportunity for questions such as:

• How new is this vision and what are its theological and historical roots?
• What opportunities does it hold for evangelisation and mission?
• How will this Synodal process work in practice? How can we discern the voice of the Spirit in the local churches?

Featuring several guest speakers.
