Young Catholic adults are encouraged to snap up their place to see Pope Francis in Rome this October and make their voices heard.

A number of places for the Archdiocese of Birmingham Discernment Pilgrimage to Synod 2018 are still available.

This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many young adults to experience such a pilgrimage, which has been jointly organised by the Diocesan Vocations Office and Kenelm Youth Trust (KYT).

A report – reflecting the voice of young people across the Archdiocese - will also be presented during the Synod on Youth, Faith and Vocational Discernment.

Twelve young people have already booked their place, and will be travelling with Fr Michael Dolman, Vocations Director, this October.

During the trip the pilgrims will have the chance to experience tours of the major basilicas, the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel, and will be present in Rome during the Synod.

In preparation for the event the organisers have visited schools across the Archdiocese, and held a number of events at Oscott College, to gather together the thoughts, ideas and words of young people.

This has resulted in approximately 250 scrolls of paper – around 10,000 words – which are now being compiled into the report to be presented in Rome.

Beccy Roseman, from KYT, said: “The Archdiocese has made a huge effort to connect young people and the Synod, and the trip to Rome is an amazing opportunity for them to get involved and make a difference.

“Moving forward we want young people to be more actively involved in parish life and be a key part of the community.”

Ann-Christy John, Educational Outreach Fieldworker from the Vocations Office, added: “This is set to be an unforgettable experience to be part of the Synod in Rome.

“Anyone who is considering it should book their place now.”

The pilgrimage is open to people aged 18 to 35 and takes place from October 23 to 28. It costs £240 for students/unwaged and £285 for others (excluding flights).
