Visitors to a popular soup kitchen were served by the Archbishop of Birmingham on Friday night (8 March) when he joined regular volunteers.

His Grace, Archbishop Bernard Longley, and his secretariat, Fr Dominic Crosslett, worked alongside other volunteers to serve over 125 homeless men and women.

The soup kitchen - opposite St Michael’s Catholic Church in Moor Street - is organised twice each month by the St Vincent de Paul Society based at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Redditch.

But it runs every night at the same place thanks to input from other church and faith groups.

First launched more than 25 years ago, the soup kitchen has gone from strength to strength as volunteers work together to help others.
