Former school pupil Mercy Ballard, aged 99, performed the opening honours, along with two members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Suzanna Barry and Steve Brennan.

Father Douglas Lamb also blessed the library at last week's ceremony.

Helen Stewart, Acting Principal, said: "Mercy Ballard, a 99-year-old former pupil, opened the new library at St Ambrose Catholic Primary School in Kidderminster.

"The excited pupils were joined by parishioners, who have helped staff to label and order all of the new books, and Father Lamb who blessed the area.

"It was a lovely occasion and the children now have a wonderful learning environment in which they can nurture their love for reading."
