Latest News Embracing ‘The Year of the Word’ with a Readers' Day The Birmingham East Deanery has kick-started The Year of the Word: The God Who Speaks campaign with a dedicated readers’ day. Mgr Daniel McHugh co-ordinated the recent ‘Readers’ Day and Leaders of Children’s Liturgy’ at St Ambrose Barlow in Hall Green. The day opened with a focus on The Year of the Word and the Sunday Scripture Readings with Fr Denis Carter of the Columban Fathers, a Scripture Scholar and Bible Study Group Leader. Georgina O’Gara, RE Teacher, parent and catechist led a talk and workshop on The Year of the Word and Prayer at Home. Mary Casey, a trainer in public speaking at Oscott and Maryvale Institute, led the focus on Reading in Church. Sharon Seery, RE Teacher and Leader of Children’s Liturgy at St George and St Teresa, Dorridge, looked at The Year of the Word and Children’s Liturgy. Bethany Mulvey OP, a teacher engaged in Scripture Research at Birmingham University, focused on Ongoing Scripture Study for All: a correspondence course for The Year of the Word. Mgr McHugh concluded the day with The Year of the Word and the Parish: a sharing and discussion. “The event has been reviewed by the Deanery and it was felt by the Priests to have been very successful,” said Mgr McHugh. “In fact we would like it repeated in due course.” Beth Mulvey has written a special correspondence course for The Year of the Word. It is entitled Our Lady of Evesham’s Scripture Course by Correspondence. The course is free of charge.
