Redemptorist Publications is delighted to announce it is extending its mission to encompass Dementia Prayer Week as part of its pastoral outreach initiative.

Redemptorist Publications, a Christian publisher and registered charity, help translate the Gospel into human words, relevant to daily life and to aid the Christian community on its journey towards God. Part of this mission includes a pastoral outreach series which tackles many trials that one may face in life.

Dementia Prayer Week, which was previously run by the Pastoral Care Project for the last 12 years, will now feature under Redemptorist Publications pastoral outreach initiative. The event will launch from 12 -19 March 2021 with the aim to raise awareness and a deeper understanding of the spiritual needs of people living with dementia. It will also provide a fundraising drive to help support and ensure future dementia resources are more widely available for the Christian community.

There are currently around 850,000 people with dementia in the UK. This is projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040 (Alzheimer's Society). Nurturing the spiritual side of dementia sufferers and their carers is essential and can improve their quality of life whilst providing the strength, for both, to cope with the ongoing challenges associated with dementia care.

Redemptorist Publications Publishing Director, Fr Denis McBride C.Ss.R., said: "I am truly delighted to welcome this important event to our mission. Nourishing the spiritual needs of those affected by dementia, which is often over-looked, is fundamental in providing hope to the practical daily struggles of those living with dementia. Redemptorist Publications is very proud to continue to raise awareness and provide support to those facing dementia in the Christian community."

Everyone is invited to take part in this national event, now in its 13th year. The initiative will be highlighted, and all those living with dementia prayed for, during Fr Denis’ online Mass on 14 March. Further resources and ways to get involved and support the event can be found here
