The annual Chrism Mass was celebrated at St Chad’s Cathedral on Wednesday 31 March.

Archbishop Bernard Longley celebrated the Holy Week service, and was joined by the area bishops and the deans, representing the deaneries of the diocese.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the Mass was live stream only for most of the clergy - who usually attend the Chrism Mass in large numbers - the religious and the lay faithful.

Music and song were provided by members of the cathedral choir.

At the Chrism Mass the Archbishop blessed the holy oils - the Oil of Catechumens, the Oil of the Sick and consecrated the Oil of Holy Chrism.

These will be used in the administration of the sacraments throughout the parishes of the Archdiocese in the course of the year.

Archbishop Bernard also led the priests in renewing their promises to serve God and his people.
