Calling all young explorers! Join an interactive scavenger hunt at St Chad’s Cathedral

As part of the journey through Holy Week to Easter children are invited to take part in an online scavenger hunt.

From today (Mon 29 March) the recently launched 360 degree virtual tour of St Chad’s Cathedral will boast this new feature, aimed at children aged five to 11 (younger explorers may need a little help).

Remember to look from different angles in the Cathedral; what you can see from one place, you might not see from another.

The interactive scavenger hunt takes around 30 minutes to complete, with all clues based on Jesus’ journey to the Cross and Resurrection.

You will begin by clicking on an Easter egg, which will open up a voice recorded clue and should help you find the next clue.

You can then virtually follow the clues which are placed around the Cathedral and Crypt. Follow the trail to the end.

Due to the ongoing pandemic tours at the Cathedral are not possible, and so the virtual tour enables people to visit from the comfort of their own home (wherever they are in the world) at whatever time they like.

The virtual tour is also attracting some great feedback, with comments so far including ‘fabulous use of tech’; ‘It looks fabulous and the videos are brilliant’; ‘it will help to reconnect the children to their Parish church and ‘Mother’ Church; ‘the creation of a virtual tour is great news!’

St Chad’s was the first Catholic Cathedral erected in Great Britain in 1841 following the Reformation of the 16th Century.

It was designed by the great Gothic Revivalist Augustus Welby Pugin, who was also responsible for the Palaces of Westminster and the iconic clock tower of Big Ben.
