News and events Events Drinkwater Day at Maryvale Institute This year marks the Centenary year of The Sower – the Diocesan magazine – founded by Canon Francis Drinkwater. On Wednesday 23 October Maryvale Institute is honouring his outstanding service to the diocese and the wider Church, in the field of catechetics and Religious Education, by celebrating Mass and formally naming the library the Drinkwater Library. It is hoped many schools, and those involved in catechetics, will be represented at this event. Mass will be at 12noon to give thanks for the life and inspirational ministry of Canon Drinkwater. Fr Anselm Stark OCSO, of Mount St Bernard's Abbey, was a boy in wartime Holy Family parish, Small Heath, where Fr Drinkwater was parish priest. It was Drinkwater who inspired the boy to go forward to the priesthood and after the Mass, when a plaque is unveiled on the Drinkwater Library door, Fr Anselm will speak of his memories of Fr Drinkwater. Followed by refreshments. Centenary article in The Sower, p10/11 Booking for this event has now closed.
