Retired priest, Fr Edmund Motherway, celebrates 100th birthday

As Fr Eddie Motherway, retired priest of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, living in Ireland, reaches the age of 100, Archbishop Bernard Longley said:

‘I wish to congratulate Fr Edmund Motherway on behalf of all his brother priests in the Archdiocese of Birmingham. Fr Motherway is our longest-ordained priest  and he has never lost his sense of joy at serving the Lord in the presbyterate. I hope he enjoys his hundredth birthday at his lovely home in County Cork. I thank Fr Motherway’s housekeeper of many years Sheila for the dedicated care, support and companionship which she continues to offer. I ask the Good Shepherd to bless Fr Motherway, his faithful priest and servant, as the New Year unfolds.’

As he celebrates this milestone birthday, we thank God for his long life and years of priestly ministry; 47 years of active parish ministry and 27 years of faithful priesthood in retirement.

Happy 100th Birthday, Fr Eddie, from everybody in the Archdiocese of Birmingham!
