Invitation from the John Bradburne Memorial Society

Cumbrian-born John Bradburne used to climb Cross Fell regularly. Considering his impending beatification to become a Saint, the John Bradburne Memorial Society, which funds the Mutemwa Leprosy Care Centre where Bradburne spent his latter years, are once again holding an annual pilgrimage on Saturday 8 June led by Rev Paul Harrison.

Said Kate Macpherson, JBMS Secretary and niece of John Bradburne, “This marks the fourth year of organising the climb, serving as a fitting tribute to John being in the place he grew up. It’s an enjoyable but challenging climb, so please ensure you’re adequately equipped if you plan to join.”

The day will start with a service in Skirwith, at St John the Evangelist Church at 10am, followed by the walk starting at 11am up the fell, then a talk and refreshments in Skirwith Village Hall after the climb.
