Day for Life – July 26, 2015July 26, 2015 Day for Life – the day in the Church’s year dedicated to celebrating the dignity of life and praying for the protection of human life.
This year we look at how to cherish life while we can and accept death when it comes.
There will be a mandatory second collection in parishes to support Day for Life
Proceeds of the collection will go to The Anscombe Bioethics Centre and other pro-life related activities supported by the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
Prayer for a good death
O blessed Joseph
who breathed your last in the arms of Jesus
obtain for me this grace
that I may breathe forth my soul in praise
saying in spirit, if I am unable to do so in words
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give Thee my heart and my soul."
From next year onwards the Day for Life will be celebrated on the third Sunday of June, i.e. June 19th 2016.

St Chad’s Cathedral Fifth Annual Flower FestivalJune 12, 2015
12 – 14 June 2015. St Chad’s Cathedral and Minor Basilica is still known as one of A W Pugin’s gems and he was determined along with the Earl of Shrewsbury that it would be filled with works of art and have magnificent stained glass windows by the Hardman’s. In June 12 to 14 we are determined to fill the Cathedral with magnificent displays of flowers of all shapes, sizes and colours. Our theme this year is “The Year of Consecrated Life”, as declared by Pope Francis. He is asking all religious, priests and deacons to “Wake up the World” with their testimony of faith, holiness and hope. Help us make our 5th Annual Flower Festival an even greater success than last year. You will be more than welcome to just come and wander round our magnificent displays and enjoy a cup of tea and a cake. If you offer to come and join us to put up a display for your parish or lady’s group you will be even more welcome and you will make new friends for life. Bicentenary of the Sacred Heart ShrineJune 19, 2014 8:00pm Maryvale House,
Old Oscott Hill,
In 1814 Bishop Milner, Vicar Apostolic of the Midland District, returned from Rome, bringing with him the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in stained glass which now forms the centre of the window in the Sacred Heart shrine chapel. We believe that this is the first image of the Sacred Heart to be established publicly in England so to celebrate the bicentenary of the shrine, Archbishop Bernard Longley will celebrate the Solemn Pilgrimage Mass on Sunday 29th. June at 3.00 pm followed by the procession and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. From Thursday 19th to Friday 27th June there will be a novena of Masses celebrated at 8.00pm by the bishops and priests of the diocese. All are most welcome to any of these celebrations. PILGRIMAGE AFTERNOON: Sunday 29th June 3.00pm Open-air Mass and Procession of the Blessed Sacrament in honour of the Sacred Heart. · Coach parties are welcome · Refreshments available Download the poster here
