An Invitation from Archbishop Bernard Longley

Archbishop Bernard is inviting parishoners across the Archdiocese to attend a faith renewal course piloting on two Saturdays in May at Oscott College. The Life in the Spirit dvd course, entitled The GIFT,  features well-known Catholic speakers Charles Whitehead, Michelle Moran, Jenny Baker and David Payne plus testimonies from around the country.

Pope Francis challenged us all in Evangelii Gaudium to invoke the Holy Spirit constantly; ‘We need to implore the daily grace of the Holy Spirit, asking him to open our cold hearts and shake up our lukewarm and superficial existence’ (para 264). Last summer the Holy Father urged hundreds of clergy gathered in St Peter’s in Rome to run Life in the Spirit courses in their parishes and schools as a dynamic way for Catholics to encounter ‘the friend closest to our hearts’.

Archbishop Bernard echoed the Pope’s challenge by saying; ‘The Holy Spirit is vital for our diocese’  and he is encouraging all parishes to send delegates to experience the course, which has been put together by the CaFE  team (Catholic Faith Exploration) from Westminster.  Up to three people per parish can attend and the course is free. It’s running on May 7th and 21st from 10 to 4 and Mass with the Archbishop will complete the second Saturday.

Pope Francis has sent his warm encouragement and an Apostolic Blessing on the course and all those who run or attend it. So far over 800 parishes and groups have run the course around the UK with very positive feedback coming from priests, leaders and guests.  Oscott College Rector Fr David Oakley said :  ‘Pope Francis has wisely given his blessing on the GIFT course and the pilot event at Oscott is a really great opportunity for our diocese’
