On Saturday 2 February, Walsall (Catholic) Deanery hosted a special Faith Workshop on Evangelisation at St Mary’s the Mount RC Church, Walsall.
Walsall Dean Father Michael Leadbeater explained, ‘On the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, around 40 parishioners from across the Walsall Deanery gathered at St Mary’s the Mount for a presentation and workshops on evangelisation. This was one of a number of events arranged in the deanery as part of the Year of Faith.’
‘Deacon David Palmer spoke of the basics of evangelisation and followed this with advice on practical issues.’
‘The gathering was enthusiastic in its response with parishes learning much, particularly about the New Evangelisation, taking forward the inspiration given by the Second Vatican Council.’
Deacon Palmer said, ‘It was great to see so many people enthusiastic about sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others. The message of Christmas is that Almighty God came to share in our daily lives and there are many things we can do as Christians to help make other people’s lives easier, especially by sharing the good news that they are loved as children of God.’
‘Father Salvatore and the parish team were really welcoming and there is a lovely facility at St Mary’s the Mount in Walsall and it is wonderful that it is used regularly to support the local community. There is so much that can be done by simply being Christian in the way we serve others – whatever our way of life and whatever work we do.’
The workshops are being held in each Deanery of the Archdiocese of Birmingham to help Catholics consider how best to share their Faith. In particular, there is an emphasis on how practising Catholics can reach out to the non-practising Catholics on the fringes of the church and welcome them back.
