The ‘Year of Faith’ will begin on 11 October 2012, the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council. The documents of the Council offer very important teaching in support of the Church’s ongoing mission.
It is suggested that you read and study the four Constitutions described as the ‘pillars of the Council’. These Constitutions are:
1. Lumen Gentium – on the Church
2. Sacrosanctum Concilium – on the Sacred Liturgy
3. Dei Verbum – on Divine Revelation
4. Gaudium et Spes – on the Church in the Modern World
Twenty years ago Blessed Pope John Paul II published the Catechism.
During the Year of Faith every baptised person is invited to re-read the Catechism to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the most important gift that they’ve been given – their faith. The Catechism helps everyone to learn about the content of the faith as received and safeguarded by the Church during the pst 2000 years.
To assist this process the Archdiocese of Birmingham is running a program called Doorway to Faith, providing four prayer booklets throughout the year that will cover every day of the Year of Faith from 14th Oct 2012 – 24th Nov 2013 and will focus on the Catechism, going through it systematically, from beginning to end. Each booklet will give an overview of the section of the Catechism being covered and an appropriate question and reflection for every day of the Year of Faith. It will also give cross references for further study.
